New Normalization and Weighting in PixInsight
Before you dive into this topic, please watch the videos on Normalization and Local Normalization. Normalization is the process that precedes the weighting of images. (It is how you get the weights to begin with.). This suggestion to watch these videos first is properly sequenced on the PixInsight Path.
"Through the Looking Gas" is a presentation I gave at the Advanced Imaging Conference in May of 2022. It discusses a number of topics that are all relevant to Normalization and Weighting Schemes in PixInsight (and astronomical software in general). Please watch this first... Unfortunately it is marred by some hot microphones that the audio staff did not properly manage. Please ignore that. I think the information is good enough to warrant watching.
