MureDenoise Flats Selection

Was just viewing Ou4 Nebula Narrow Band: Part 3

In MureDenoiseDetectorSettings, two random Bias frames were selected, and two random Green flats were also selected. The Gain and Noise values obtained were used in MureDenoise application to OIII, H, and SII. Are we saying that any two flats from any color filter can be used to obtain the values for MureDenoise that can be applied to any other color filter? So these values just come from the camera, and can be applied to any master light frame as universal values? A handy tool!

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John,

Yes. The readnoise and gain are properties of the sensor. It doesn't matter what color of light is hitting the sensor to make the gain measurement. So once you know the readnoise and gain for your sensor/camera... that is it. You can use this values.

There *is* a slight gotcha... if you change the binning of your sensor (on-chip binning for CCD chips)- this can affect the readnoise measurement. So you will need multiple values for each binning. But this is less commonly an issue.

Please review my Gain and Readnoise section for more:

  • Thanks Adam. In my most recent NB processing, MureDenoise was used on the light masters from an ASI2600MM-P camera and worked quite well on the OIII and SII frames, but with Ha not as much change, just as you have shown in this tutorial.

    Regards,

    John
