1x Drizzle?

Hi Adam,  I've seen a couple of different threads where it seems the PI developers are now recommending. to use drizzle 1X in WBPP assuming you have more than 15 dithered frames.    When the seeing is good, I typically dither 2X since my subs are a tad under sampled.    It sounds like with this new recommendation there may be some benefit to dither even when not under sampled.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this but rather than follow blindly I'm still trying to understand how/why this works and it's a bit confusing to sort out from the various forum threads.  Would love to get your take here.

Thanks, Steve

  • 1x1 Drizzle avoids interpolation artifacts that are a normal part of image registration.
It is also stated that this has an additional benefit in terms of SNR.
The pre-requisite is to have at least 15-20 frames and the data needs to be dithered.

The thread in wish I pushed Vicent and Juan to explain themselves is the one you want to read.
