Hi Adam,This post is just about an interest I have wondered about for many years. And today I can post the result. See attached and below:
In 1955 my Mom and Dad bought us kids a Time book called 'The World We Live In'. Well at 4 yrs old I could not read it, but I loved the pictures. Especially the galaxies, stars, and planets.
One of the pictures was a portion of the great Andromeda Galaxy. It was from the famous Hale 100" telescope or the new Palomar 200" telescope (book listed both) The B&W image is from a film plate.
Recently I was motivated to use my little 4" telescope to image this same galaxy and compare it to leading telescopes of the time. Below is the result. It is part of the same Andromeda image I posted a week ago (on my Facebook). My image crop is at 1:1 and rotated.
Is it a fair comparison? In 1955 there was no image processing and no stacking images! Today, my small telescope from light polluted Hong Kong can do pretty good.
Of course Adam, I attribute my image processing improvements to your video series and your passion to teach us wannabe's!
