Need help with image

Adam,

Let me start with a question.  When I clone a working image and then apply a process from the History Explorer of the working image to the clone, if that process employed a mask, it appears that the mask is not applied automatically to the clone - its History Explorer does not indicate a mask for that process.  Is that correct?  I have to manually apply the respective mask to the clone before applying the working image process?

Below is a link to a tif lrgb image that I am not happy with.  I do not want to take up much of your time, but give me a few quick blasts if you would on how I can do better.

1.  The stars are overwhelming.

2.  The background sky is mottled.

3.  There is a pronounced glow below the galaxy.

It may look like I didn't do anything right, but I followed the recommended workflow to the best of my ability.  I have been successful before on a different image.  Never mind the dust donuts.  I successfully used your dust donut removal technique presented in the Fundamental Workflow Example, and I can do it again if I wish.  If you need a summary of the workflow used, let me know.  My issues are so obvious you may not need it.

Hi Alan,

Yes, you are correct concerning masks. You clone bodies... not clothing. lol

You will need to re-apply a mask to your cloned image.

1. Stars may be overwhelming...but this is likely more of a processing issue (and perhaps poor seeing thing). It appears you tried deconvolution? If so... I suspect the mask+deringing parameters might need adjustments. 

2. Yes... this is probably the worse offense. You would definitely need to provide the workflow (can't read minds ya know). It sure looks like an MMT (or MLT) artifact. 

3. Either a result of poor flat correction... or imperfect DBE. Sometimes it *is* difficult. It depends on the quality of the initial data. That being said..this certain looks like something you could get a better result with. (Especially if you need to tweak something manually in DBE.)

Regarding the dust donut... remember if it is not in every image, you can use selective rejection. Otherwise.. yeah.. the another technique.
